Whale Watching!

We headed out of San Cipriano early this morning for Buenaventura, to catch the ferry to our next destination, Pacifico Hostel. We got to the port a couple hours early, so had some breakfast and decided to try a cholado for breakfast dessert (kind of a snow cone with lots of fruit and condensed milk- pretty delish). Alejandro had a juice of borojo.

We boarded the boat at 10:30 and had a beautiful ride to our home for the next few days.

We started out exploring for a little while, then it was time to go whale watching! We found a small pod of mother, father, and baby humpbacks. The baby was flipping around everywhere and waving- it was so cool!

We also drove by this beautiful island on the way back and even saw some blue footed boobies! (Though they weren’t as blue as they were in the Galapagos.)

Before dinner, we went for a walk along the beach that appears at low tide. The area is so beautiful!

We had signed up on the list for dinner earlier in the day, and when dinner was served at 6 PM, we realized it was… shrimp spaghetti… not good for Cassie (she has an allergy to shrimp). We were essentially stranded without any other options currently for eating. Luckily, the ladies in the kitchen had some arepa balls with cheese that they fixed for me so I could at least have something for dinner.

A little while after we finished with dinner, we went to take advantage of one other awesome thing that we had heard about this hostel- bioluminesence! It was awesome, just swimming and watching the water around you light up. We had seen this in Puerto Rico from a kayak, but it was really cool to be able to play around with it some more. Unfortunately, pictures don’t come out right.

  1. Wow! They let you swim in a bioluminesence lagoon?! So Cool. I feel a little bit seasick after watching your whale video!! Were you in a big aluminum fishing boat like the one in the video? See you soon!!
