Rafting Rio Suarez

Today we got up then headed to the market for some breakfast. It was full of all different types of food which was great! We were stuffed! And only spent $5 total… Amazing!

Now, after being well fed, we hung out the rest of the morning until 10am when we got picked up to go rafting. After signing away several liability wavers (the first time we had to do this in Colombia) we took off for the Suarez river, and our first class 4-5 rapid rafting experience together.

We had an extensive safety briefing at the river. Alejandro was the model for the group.

After passing our safety training, we started down the river. The rapids progressed from some easier class 3 and ended with class 4 and 5. We had two super close calls with flipping. The first time, we were stuck on a rock for 20 seconds or so with our raft at an incline front to back of 45 degrees or so.

The second time we got pushed up into a rock. If you watch our expressions closely, you can see how surprised we were.

We had a great time though, and the views weren’t too bad either. We even got to to hop out of the rafts a couple times to swim during the parts that were more chill.

After the trip, the fed us a lunch of roast chicken and fruit, with a celebratory beer, then we headed back towards town. We hung out at our hostel for a couple hours before heading out to dinner. Cassie had a goat burger and Alejandro had a hot dog with everything, just like he remembered from his time living in Colombia. After dinner, we headed to bed.
