Caño Cristales

Breakfast at 6:15 this morning to be at a National Park orientation at 7:30, then the fun part started. We hopped in a motor taxi to take us towards the attraction of La Macarena, called Caño Cristales.

From where the moto-toxi dropped us off, we took a boat, then a 4×4 truck to the start of a trail. The trail was beautiful. It was an 8 km long trail with multiple stops at swimming holes, waterfalls, and various places filled with the Macarenia plants.

The weather was fantastic in the morning, but, unfortunately for the second half of the day it started torrentially downpouring. Oh well, we at least had the best sights with sunshine. We took the same transportations on the way out (4×4 truck then boat) on our way back to the hostel.

After showering/cleaning up we had a little time to relax before our dinner activity, a Parrando! It was essentially dinner with a show of the local music, food, and dance (Joropo). So much fun! Also very surprising to see that harp is a HUGE component of the “llanera” music.

After the meal and show it was finally time to rest up before another early night tomorrow.
