We were up and ready for the bus at 3 AM today to take us to Colca Canyon. We had a 4 hour trip to the town of Chivay where we stopped for some tea and breakfast, then continued on.

The second stop was at Cruz del Condor, a lookout area for condors. We got to see a few very close up, though they were a little more difficult to catch on camera.
Around 10:30, the bus dropped us off at Cabanaconde, a small town on the edge of the canyon. From there, we started our hike towards Llahuar. Luckily it was pretty straightforward based on other blogs that we had read. Almost the entire way was going down- we descended over 4,000 feet in 7.5 miles. The desert environment was a lot different than what we had seen on our previous hikes, and there were some beautiful colors in the canyon walls.
We arrived to Llahuar lodge around 2, and went to enjoy the hot springs right next to the river.
We read a little bit before dinner at 7. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as great as we had been accustomed to eating, consisting of a pretty bland soup, quinoa porridge, rice, and a small vegetable fritter. We read for a little bit longer before heading to bed.
Spoiled! Who care what you eat with a view like that in your hot tub! Amazing!
