Trekking to Incan Ruins, Day 7: Collpapampa to Lucmabamba

We were at our hotel breakfast at 5 AM, which was a pretty solid breakfast buffet. Around 5:45, we headed out to stand in line for the bus. We waited for about an hour in the rain to finally get on a bus. We had been enjoying such good weather on the trip, we figured it had to turn at some time, and we were a little bummed when we got up to Machu Picchu and it was raining and shrouded in clouds.

Our guide took us to a covered shelter, where he talked to us about the history of Machu Picchu. After 30 min or so, the rain stopped, and eventually, even the clouds mostly went away! It turned out to be a beautiful day. Our guide showed us the various palaces and temples and gave us a guided tour of the ruins, then took some pictures for us and left us to explore on our own.

We hiked up to the Sun Gate for some beautiful views. We got lucky and the clouds cleared within 10 minutes of us reaching the top. Someone else up top had been waiting for 4 hours!

We then got some different views of the ruins and hiked to the Inca bridge. We took one more stroll through the ruins before we had to go.

We had to leave around 1 to pick up our things at the hotel then caught our train back to Cusco at 3:20.

We checked into the hotel around 8, then went to grab some food before bed time. Another early morning tomorrow.
