Trekking to Incan Ruins, Day 6: Yanama to Collpapampa

Headed out this morning for the highest point of our trek, Yanama pass. The first part was a gentle ascent through a valley where we saw farmers harvesting potatoes next to the trail and some glacier capped mountains in the distance.

The trail then turned into a lot of switchbacks leading up to the pass at 15,100 feet. We couldn’t see much back the way we had come, but we did see the start of the long downhill that we had to look forward to…

On the way down, we saw some of the mountains we hadn’t had a chance to see on the way up because of the clouds, as well as some other beautiful views.

After lots of downhill, we finally made it to our lunch spot in Totora.

From here, it was an easy (but still long) walk on the road to our campsite at Collpapampa at 2800 meters.

We did 5400 ft of vertical drop! We didn’t get to camp until around 4:30, so we had tea time in our tent and relaxed a bit before dinner. After dinner, again, we called it an early night.
