Trekking to Incan Ruins, Day 5: Maizal to Yanama

We were up at 6 again today. Typical start, then headed out on the trail around 7:15. We headed up all this morning towards Victoria Pass.  It was very muddy because of all the rain we had the day/night before, so we spent a lot of time hopping from rock to rock trying to avoid the huge puddles.

The last part of the hike up to Victoria Pass was original Inca trail.

We stopped at the top of the pass for some snacks and coca tea. Unfortunately, it was a little cloudy so we couldn’t see the other side very well. After a small break, we started heading down the other side of the pass. It was crazy how different the vegetation was on the other side. It was unreal. Everything was green and grassy with beautiful wildflowers.

We passed by a super steep cliff and eventually made it to our campsite at Yanama, which would be our highest campsite at 11,800 ft. It was beautiful when we arrived, so we spent some more time lounging outside and drying our clothes that hadn’t had a chance to dry in the other more humid sites.

We spent most of the rest of the day eating- lunch, tea time, then dinner. Cassie had a little bit of a headache from the altitude, but luckily it got a lot better with some ibuprofen.
