Day 35- Isla del Sol

Today we woke up and hopped on a boat to cruise the 1.5 hours over to the birthplace of the gods (according to the Incas), called Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun). The boat ride over didn’t necessarily live up to its name, but at least it wasn’t raining!P2050694.JPG

We arrived at the port of Isla del Sol and then started our exploration of the island. Apparently some foreigner built an ecolodge on the north part of the island without first obtaining permission from the natives, which made them upset, and therefore semi-hostile to tourists, so we stuck to the south part of the island only. First stop was an old temple (on the way we stopped to take some pictures of a llama and an alpaca!).

From there, we headed back up to the highest point on the southern part of the island. We were lucky and the sun finally started breaking through!

Next stop was lunch- we figured we are on an island, might as well have fish and a great view, right?

Last stop before getting back on the boat and heading back to Copacabana was a second lookout point.

We arrived back around 5:30pm, in time to shower and relax for a bit. Next stop, beachside restaurant for sunset and to try the typical Bolivian drink, a Chuflay, which is made of Singani (a grape based spirit) as well as some Sprite and lemon juice. We got some pretty crazy sunset views.

Last stop of the night was dinner. Cassie had trout with garlic sauce and Alejandro had trout “a la diablo”, with a spicy tomato/onion sauce. We had another early night, exhausted.
