Day 34- Copacabana

Today we decided to explore the town a little bit.  Unfortunately, it was raining most of the morning, so we got a little bit of a late start.

First stop was the cathedral, which was beautiful, and very big! There were multiple cars outside decorated with flowers. Apparently it is a tradition to have your car blessed on Sunday, and it helps keep you safe on the road (or they could just be better drivers, but who are we to judge?). The inside of the church was very ornate, but we weren’t allowed to take pictures.

As we were walking through town, we noticed a sign pointing to Boca del Sapo (mouth of the frog). Cassie had read about a hike to the rock formation of the same , so we decided to give it a shot. You can kind of see it, if you know what you are looking for.

The trail turned out continuing up with some scrambling to the top of Cerro Calvario with a lookout over the lake and the town of Copacabana.

After our hike, we decided to grab some lunch near the market. We had a set menu with a soup and a main course for 10 Bolivianos (That is $1.50!!!). It was delicious, especially for the price. Cassie had a soup called Chairo with vegetables, and Alejandro had a peanut noodle soup. For mains, Cassie had something called Falso Conejo (false rabbit) that was some kind of beef, and Alejandro had Pique Macho, which is a spicy meat mixture over french fries.

It started raining again in the afternoon, so we took a break for some onward trip planning at the hotel. After it stopped raining, we did a little more nonspecific wandering through town trying to catch the sunset, but it was a little too cloudy.

Today was the superbowl and we actually had a TV in our room that looked like it was going to be showing the game! We had a small set menu for dinner again and then loaded up on some superbowl snacks (mango, passion fruit, nuts, queso fresco, tuna (cactus fruit)) and a few local beers and settled down for the night to watch the game.
