Day 15 – Our first time canyoning!

The bus picked us up at 10 AM for our canyoning adventure. We drove to near the base of the Villarica volcano where previous lava flows had carved out a beautiful canyon. They outfitted us with wetsuits, watershoes, and helmets, and we were off.  It was a 25 minute hike up to where we started. First part was a 60+ foot rappel right next to a huge waterfall. As soon as we got down into the canyon, we both were amazed at how beautiful it was.

We worked our way down the canyon by way of walking, climbing, swimming, and jumping into water until our next obstacle, which was a mixture of rappel and ziplining into the water.

Then some more walking/climbing/swimming until we reached a waterfall/cliff that we jumped off into the pool below. Later on was scaling a cliff (while attached to a safety line) and then ending with another rappel/zipline combo. We both had a blast and we were sad when it ended. We got back to the hostel around 4 PM and just hung out outside in the sun.

After we made dinner at the hostel, we went to an orientation for our Volcano hike tomorrow, then headed to bed early for a 6 AM start.
