After a solid night of rest, we got up this morning to do some exercise before starting our day. We figured this public waterfront equipment wasn’t the worst place in the world to work out.

At 10:30, we met our guide for a tour of the Pinguineras! On the West coast of Chiloe is the only place in the world that there is an island where 2 different kinds of penguins live together and even procreate at times! We drove there while our (Spanish speaking) guide told us about the island. I (Cassie) didn’t understand much of what he was saying partly because of the Spanish and partly because of a very strong accent. Even Alejandro had some trouble! Our first stop was the main stop, the Pinguineras (small islets off the coast where the penguins mate). We took a little push cart out to the boat and then rode out to see the penguins.

In addition to the penguins, we saw sea lions and a ton of other types of birds on the islands including ducks, geese, seagulls,  and orange footed orange beaked cormorants.

After the penguins, we hopped back in the car and our guide took us to some great look out points…. Except there was so much fog we couldn’t see much of anything…

When we got back, we headed out to get some lunch (fried fish for me and a steak for Alejandro) at the market. We also tried out another traditional dish called Milcao, which was a potato dumpling/cake thing that was recommended to us by our tour guide in Valpo. It had little surprises of chicharron inside- very interesting.

We walked around the town a little more, stopping to look at an old church and one of my new favorite types of tree, then one last goodbye to the ocean.

Our bus left at 5pm, and we got into Puerto Varas around 8:15. We were greeted by beautiful views of two volcanoes! Next was again time for sleep.
