We took a taxi at 7:00 AM to the town of Mongui to start our trek to the Paramo de Oceta. We met our guide Maria, and after the whole group arrived, we started our hike. First stop was her house to pick up some mud boots, then we continued onward. We stopped to talk about some of the native plants, and we saw an indigenous birthing place (in the past) carved out of rock.
We kept hiking up and up, climbing through different ecosystems/layers amd with some great views over the valley.
After a lot of climbing, we finally reached the main event- the Páramo de Ocetá! It was beautiful!
We took a different route down- climbing through caves and narrow passageways until we reached a waterfall.
The rest of the hike down was nice- lots of different kinds of vegetation, and the weather finally cleared up a bit.
Back in town, we bought some lunch from one of our guides’ wives (a huge plate of trout, potatoes, salad, soup, and juice) and then walked back to catch the bus.
Again, we had such a huge late lunch, we just snacked on some friut for dinner and hung out at the hostel.
Gorgeous Plants!
