Caño Cristales Part 2

Today was another early morning for the return boat ride, 4×4 truck ride, to make it back to the park. Our first stop was the highlight of the trip, “Los Ochos”, a place where the river has carved out structures in the sedimentary rock that look like number 8’s (ochos). Those rock formations with the Macarenias was a very pretty spectacle.

After that we walked to a completely different part of the park where there was actually more of a jungle environment. Here the Macarenias didn’t get enough sunlight to turn red, so they were mostly just a green color, just like the rest of the vegetation around us. It was still super impressive and interesting landscapes.

Today was a little shorter day than yesterday so after the jungle hike we headed back to town. The sun started blazing on our return so once we got to town we headed straight to the local juice stand for a refreshment. They had some jugo de guanabana which was amazing. We also tried a juice of the local Araza, which was sour, but also refreshing in the heat of the day. We also tried a fruit called Champa, that was native to the region.

After the juice we went back to the hotel, had a brief swim in the pool, then showered up and walked around town before dinner. We stumbled across some food stands so stopped by for some appetizers of chorizo and pasteles de pollo. They were delicious!

After that we headed to dinner, and shortly after headed to bed for an even earlier morning tomorrow to wake up and see the sunrise.
