We slept in this morning, ate breakfast, then packed up to head to Popayan for the weekend. We caught a bus and got into Popayan around 3 PM. We had been hoping to take a walking tour at 4, but it was pouring down rain and the lady at our hotel said the tours were canceled if it was raining, so we just hung out and caught up on some things for a while.
We had heard about this placed called Mora Castilla with typical Popayan (Payanese) food, so we decided to head there for dinner. We ordered some empanadas de Pipian (filled with peanut and potato and served with a spicy peanut sauce), tamal de Pipian, carantantas with hogao, a Champu drink (corn, pineapple, and lulo), and a salpicon payanes (basically a blackberry smoothie with guanabana). Everything was super yummy!
We happened to get in town just in time for an event called Americadanza. We saw posters for it everywhere, and when we stopped by the theater, they still had tickets available! It was a showcase of native dances from Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. It turned out to be a lot of fun and super interesting.
