We woke up excited for our first full day in Medellin! We headed out to take the metro to Parque Arvi. After successfully navigating the metros, we switched over to cable cars for the rest of the journey up to the park. The views from the cars over Medellin were fantastic!

We got up to the park and walked around for a little bit. We didn’t have a ton of time because of our afternoon plans, so we started our trip back. We took a short stop off the metro for lunch. Cassie and Alejandro shared the cazuela tipical de frijol and a bandeja paisa. We had been hearing about this dish for a while. It is made up of ground beef, chicharron (crispy pork skin), sausage, blood sausage, fried egg, arepa, rice, beans, avocado, and plantain. Everything was amazing and we were stuffed!

We continued on the metro to an area called Comuna 13. It is an area of Medellin that was previously one of the hot spots for the guerrilla and paramilitary in the city, but recently has been revitalized. Here, we took a walking tour to hear about the history of the area as well as look at some of the street art.
A few years ago, they installed a set of escalators to help the inhabitants more easily get from their houses on the hills down to the main area of town.
We made it back to our area of town and had a beer at Bogota Beer Company. Then showered up after the long day, went out for a low key dinner at an italian restaurant, and ended the night shortly after.
