Got up, breakfast, then got ready for our first excursion to Urvina Bay on Isabella Island, where our goal was to see giant tortoises and land iguana. Check and check! We were lucky enough to get both of them pretty close up! It was awesome to see the huge tortoises so close- we saw at least 6 different ones!
Before heading back for lunch there was a chance to snorkel off the beach. It was really really murky with low visibility, but, out of nowhere we found a huge sea turtle hanging out in the ocean drift! We hung out with it for a while before drying off and heading back to the boat.
After lunch we had already relocated to our next destination of Tagus Cove on Isabella Island. We were hanging out on the top deck and kept seeing so much wildlife- turtles, a hammerhead shark! It wasn’t time yet for our afternoon activity, but we were all so excited that we asked special permission from the boat’s captain to snorkel off the boat. Permission granted! And we are so lucky to have gotten it because during that trip we had a big flock of penguins swim right by us while chasing a school of fish! It was definitely a highlight, they are soooo fast and agile in the water.
Once we were back on the boat, it was a short turn around, then we headed out on the zodiacs again for some more snorkeling. This time no flock of penguins, but, we did get to see the other flightless bird of the Galapagos, the Flightless Cormorant, swimming underwater. And we saw so many sea turtles!!
Our second afternoon excursion was a zodiac cruise around the bay. We got to see some sea lions, and our first spotting of the Galapagos Marine Iguana.
Back to the boat for happy hour with another awesome sunset, followed by dinner, hanging out, then bed.
