We woke up on our bus when we arrived in the small town of Nazca, a small town on he way north to Ica from Arequipa. Their claim to fame are there huge (several hundred meter) lines and figures which have been discovered in the area. These have been dated back to the Nazca people to about 2000 years ago, so the engineering in how they have been created, is still a mystery. Also, due to the large size, the figures are best seen from the air so we had a company booked that picked us up from the bus station and essentially took us straight to the airport to get the tour started. Check out our ride!

And then here were some of the photos we got of the many figures that we flew over on our short 30 minute flight.
Since outside of visiting the lines there isn’t much else to do in Nazca, as soon as we finished with the aerial tour we found a ride to the city of Ica, and a small suburb of it called Huacachina. As you can tell, the life zone has now changed to strict desert. So Ica is located in the middle of a bunch of sand dunes, but, Huacachina has a large lake so the small town is a little oasis surrounded by sand.

And one of it’s big attractions is to go out with dune buggies and sand board/sled down a few of them and watch the sunset out there, so that’s exactly what we did next!
The sunset was pretty beautiful to see out in the desert. After that, we crashed pretty hard from the long day.
