Colca Canyon, Day 3: Sangalle to Cabanaconde, then Arequipa, then Nazca

We started hiking this morning at 5:30 AM back up to the edge of the Canyon so we coul catch the early bus back to Arequipa. The hike was pretty tough, gaining more than 3500 feet of elevation in 2.6 miles. There were a lot of stairs and loose rock as well which added to the fun! We also caught the best sunrise of our Peru trip so far.

We thankfully reached Cabaconde early enough to catch the public bus back to Arequipa, with some great views of the canyon (with some ancient terraces) on the way back.

We had thought about leaving a little later, but we decided for our reward we would go back to La Dorita for a lunch/dinner celebration. The bus dropped us off at the bus station around 2:30, and we walked the 3 miles to La Dorita. This time, we started with some fried cheese and a large bowl of thick soup (chochoca). Cassie had Lechon and Alejandro had Sarza de Cabeza for main meals. Again, it was all delicious and we were stuffed. We also had to wash it down with the traditional Chicha de Jorra.

After lunch, we went back to the hostel to pick up our large bags that we had left there. We spent some time there using the internet, then caught an uber back to the bus terminal for our overnight bus to Nazca.
