Today was our last day in Tilcara. We packed up all of our things and then headed out to do the 8 mile round trip hike to yet another formation/waterfall called Garganta del Diablo. There was a chance of rain all day, so we packed all of our rain gear with us. Though it was cold and cloudy, at least we got lucky with the rain- it only sprinkled a couple times.
There was a beautiful canyon, followed by another short little hike with 10+ stream crossings to reach a waterfall. It was too bad the sun wasn’t out, I think it would have brought out the colors of the canyon a lot more.
On the hike down we had to take our picture with the HUGE catcus that we saw!

After the hike, we headed for a place to eat lunch. Alejandro had Matambre a la Pizza, a flank steak covered with ham, marinara sauce, and cheese (delicious!), and I had Locro again. We also shared an appetizer of baked cheese with herbs.
Next stop was the Archaelogic museum that held all of the various objects of everyday life that had been found in the Pucara (see yesterday) while they were excavating. It was a pretty small collection, but there were some interesting things, including a vase about the size of me that they used for making Chicha.
We walked around town for a little bit longer, then hung out back at the hostel for a while before dinner. Dinner was llama with a beer sauce for Alejandro and cheese milanesa for Cassie. We also tried a Llama tamale for an appetizer (besides the llama part, it was very similar to a Mexican tamale) and goat cheese with tuna sauce (not the fish tuna, it is the fruit of a cactus).
After dinner, we headed to the bus station to catch our 11:30pm bus to Salta.
The size of the saguaro cactus is quite impressive. There is a forest of this type of cactus in Arizona. Good picture. Thanks you for sharing.
