Day 48 – Last Day in Uyuni

We dragged ourselves out of bed early this morning for one last soak in the hot springs. When we first got in, the stars were still out- it was breathtaking! We tried to take pictures, but our camera wasn’t quite good enough. By the time we had to go back to get ready, the sun was up.

Back for breakfast, then back in the car. First stop today was the Salvador Dali Desert. Apparently, it resembles the landscapes in some of his paintings despite him never actually setting foot in Bolivia.

Next stop, Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon). It is only green when the wind blows and irritates the algae that live in it, and unfortunately there was no wind for us that morning so we didn’t get any great pictures.

One more lagoon- Laguna Blanca (White Lagoon).

From there, we headed to the Chilean border to drop off 3 of our 6 carmates so they could continue their travels in Chile. The rest of us started the long drive back to Uyuni. We stopped in a llama farming town for lunch, and at a small town for a little rest that had a beautiful old chapel. It was about a 7.5 hour trip from the border back to Uyuni.

We ate dinner at a local grill. We had 2 large plates of grilled meat with a salad bar for a total of $6 USD. We were pretty happy with our find.

Our bus left at 8:30 PM to head to the Bolivia/Argentina border town of Villazon.
