Day 23- Travel Day

We had a relaxing morning at the hostel this morning, before we took a taxi to the Mendoza airport around 10:45, and we boarded our flight to Salta at 1:00. (We were initially planning to take the bus, but upon comparing our options, it was about $40 more expensive and 16 hours shorter to take the plane, so we opted for that!)

When we arrived, we caught a taxi to our hostel that we had booked for the next 2 nights. The location was beautiful, surrounded by mountains. It was a little bit outside of the town, and Alejandro was looking forward to some rest and relaxation by the pool for a couple days, but it didn’t end up quite like we expected. When we arrived, we didn’t see any other guests. The pool and the grounds looked like they needed a little care, but the location was very pretty, so we figured it would do for a couple nights.

We headed off walking to the nearby town to grab some food. We walked by all of the restaurants, but all of them were closed. I knocked on one and the owner came to the door and offered to cook us some dinner, even though she usually is only open for lunch. We triple checked to make sure that she didn’t mind, and she assured us that it was ok. I opted for the Bife de Lomo (beef tenderloin) and Alejandro had matambre, (flank steak) with a chimichurri sauce.

We got back to our hotel around twilight, and we still didn’t see any other guests. By now, we were pretty sure we were the only people staying here. We went back to our room and the electricity wasn’t working! Back to the front office to check with reception. While we were walking to our room with the guy that was working reception, he told us that the next day was the last day that the hostel would be open.. ever! We were literally the last guests to ever stay there. After we heard that, we thought about leaving that night to head to Salta, but opted against it given that it was dark already. We decided that we would leave first thing in the morning, trying to look up possible other hotel options in Salta. Unfortunately, the internet wasn’t working, so instead we just went to bed with a plan to go to Salta first thing in the morning and figure out a plan.
