Today we decided to get all of our errands out of the way. I went to get my Bolivian visa, which took a grand total of about 3.5 hours to give them my paperwork… While I was waiting, Alejandro went to get some local currency from an ATM and… our debit card didn’t work… yikes. We walked back to our hostel to try and call Chase and figure out exactly what was going on. In the end, it turned out that Alejandro had been trying to withdraw more than the daily limit, which is why it was blocked (all Chilean ATM’s charge a fee that kept hitting it over the daily withdrawal limit). So we went to try again, and 3/4 of the way through the first day, we finally got cash! We took the Metro/bus to the other side of town so that Alejandro could get his yellow fever vaccination, then went to buy some well deserved wine ($3, and delicious!) and cheese for a pre-dinner snack (Dinner starts being served at 8 PM here…). We went out to a bar/restaurant and had some pisco sours accompanied by empanadas de queso and a sandwich that was basically beef tenderloin smothered in cheese on a bun- all was pretty delicious.
